Now I’ve seen it all….

Microsoft has contributed to the Linux-kernel. I’ll continue when you have regained yourself and are back on your chair. I mean, that’s how I reacted when I first read this news. It seems that Microsoft has made it possible for Hyper-V to be incorporated in the kernel. That way, virtual Linux-machines should run better on a Windows-based host systems. The code (about 20.000 lines of it) have been released under the GPL.

I don’t know what to think about this. I mean, Microsoft has never once held back when it came to bashing Linux, the most notorious example being Steve Ballmer compairing Linux to cancer. But, we’ll see what happens next…

Google Chrome OS? Take that Microsoft!

July 8, 2009

It’s official! Google will bring a new OS to the heavily underpopulated market. According to Google, it will be based on Linux with parts of Googles own smartphone OS, Android. I for one applaude this initiative. Microsoft has dominated the market for operating systems for way too long. It’s time that somebody else stepped in. Obviously, Chrome OS will face similar problems as Linux, the biggest being ofcourse the apparent lack of business-grade software. In that segment, Microsoft will probably loose little to no market-share. However, in the market for netbooks and UMPC’s, Google can take quite a piece of the market, taking into account that most netbooks will not run Vista or Windows 7.

Let’s say I cannot wait to try this new OS.
